Can Urea Cream Help Cracked, Peeling Nails?

by Jaime/Studio Owner

Question about Urea cream ~

Fingernails are so important to me and in my business clean soft manicured hands and nails are imperative.

Over the last year or so my nails are softer than usual and crack at the ends, then peel and eventually are short and look like they have been eaten ~ I am not a nail biter and always manicure my nails.

I do not think it is a fungus, but whatever is going on has affected all nails on both hands.
My dermatologist has suggested Urea cream on the nails - What do you suggest?

Thank you for your time!

Response To Can Urea Cream Help Cracked, Peeling Nails?
by: Nanette From Skin-Remedies.com

Hello Jaime,

First, let me start out by explaining that fingernails and toenails are made of a tough protein called keratin. The growing part of the nail is the part still under the skin at the nail's proximal end under the epidermis, which is the only living part of a nail.

Nails grow all the time, but their rate of growth slows down with age and poor circulation and nails can become dry, hard and brittle. Lots of things can cause or exacerbate dry, brittle nails such as exposure to household cleaners, washing hands too often, overly hot or overly cold temperatures in climate, dry air in the home or office and the list can go on. You see, what can dry out or damage the skin on your hands, can also do the same to your nails.

Your dermatologist recommending a urea cream to improve the health of your nails was right on! I give him/her credit for having this type of valuable knowledge! I would highly recommend using our DOUBLE STRENGTH THERACREAM applied directly to your nails twice daily. It contains 20% urea and is rich in vitamins, minerals, herbs and other important nutrients that will feed your nails. It's important to know that urea actually increases the water-binding capacity of the skin and nails by opening the 7 skin layers for hydrogen bonding, which then attracts much needed moisture to dry cells. You will be amazed at how quickly your nails will respond to this simple treatment.

On the dietary end, remember that nutrition plays a very important role in our overall health which of course would include nail health, flexibility and strength. A diet based on wholesome fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins can work wonders for the nails as well as the entire body. Be sure to get plenty of wholesome oils as well such as olive oil, flax oil and fish oils.

Please keep me posted on your progress Jaime.

Warm Regards,
Nanette
