Contact Dermatitis From Over Exposure To Grout

by Nick
(Brisbane, Australia)

Hi,

I have been working in the mining and tunneling industry for the past 5 years. In the last two years I have contracted what I've been told by doctors is contact dermatitis from over exposure to grout.

I have been prescribed cortisone cream as well as prednisone steroids orally, and my hands are now at the stage where I cannot touch anything without them flaring up and cracking. I try to use moisturizers as much as I can but almost everything I've tried only works for so long until my hands instantly react to it and flare up.

I have started taking omega fish oil but would appreciate any suggestions.

Hello Nick,

From your pictures it very well appears that you have developed contact dermatitis. You see, the skin has a "threshold" of resistance and after continuous exposure to a certain substance etc., the body reacts and can develop what is called contact dermatitis. Contact dermatitis occurring on the hands can become a severe condition and can be quite devastating to deal with.

You mentioned using moisturizers that end up not working after a time. Many people often try using an assortment of commercial products such as Aveeno, Eucerin and Aquaphor, however, these creams can actually increase the skin's dryness levels because they contain mineral oil or other petroleum based by products. These ingredients have NO usefulness to the skin nutritionally and in fact, the molecules are too large to even pass the pores of the skin so the cream just sits on top and literally suffocates these pores thereby causing further dryness and damage.

You also mentioned using prescribed cortisone cream which is a type of medicine known as a corticosteroid (or steroid). What you must know, is that if corticosteroids are used for long periods of time on raw or broken skin, they are absorbed into the body more readily. This increases the risk of local side effects such as skin thinning, a decrease in the production of natural hormones by the adrenal glands, swelling, skin irritation, redness, itching, burning sensation, rash, discoloration of the skin, easy bruising, permanent dilation of certain blood vessels, burn marks on skin, liver and kidney damage and a weakened immune system and many times a fierce return of the condition.

I highly recommend our MY DAUGHTER'S HAND & BODY THERACREAM to be applied a minimum of twice daily. This cream is hypo-allergenic and will relieve inflammation as it repairs and restores the skin 7 layers deep. It also has anti bacterial and anti microbial properties giving your hands an added layer of protection.

You may also want to consider using our FACE & BODY MOISTURIZING WASH which will not deplete the PH of the skin as most soaps and cleansers do but will begin the healing process and add much needed moisture to the skin layers.

Internally, fish oil is very good to take but I would also highly recommend our DMAE Supplement, which is a naturally occurring substance that protects the integrity of cell membranes. This is critically important because without this valuable supplement, the deterioration of cell membranes can lead to susceptability to dermatitis, eczema, and psoriasis. DMAE is a potent, site-specific free radical scavenger. It has demonstrated antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that make it an important skin care supplement. One gel capsule a day is all you need.

Please keep me posted on your progress Nick. (Note: any orders shipping outside the USA will need to be placed at our sister website which handles our International customers).

Warm Regards,
Nanette
