An Effective Approach In
Dry Skin Therapy

Dry skin and scalp can show up on you and your family members in a variety of ways. My name is Nanette and as a practicing Herbalogist, I have seen way too many cases of dry skin from new born infants to seniors.

Soap Can Dry Your Skin Many times I will get asked, ”What causes my skin to be so dry?”

My answer to this is the following: *weather conditions, *physiological factors, *workplace irritants, *harsh soaps and cosmetics, *synthetic clothing, * excessive sun exposure and *age all have an effect. And certainly, this list is not exhaustive.

You see, when natural moisture in your skin layers becomes depleted, it causes further problems. It can become very itchy and flaky and your natural reaction is to scratch. But scratching or even rubbing can aggravate the problem.

My advice deals with prevention and treatment of these skin symptoms.

Water, taken internally and in the proper amount, is important in keeping the skin smooth and flexible.

Also, a proper diet filled with fresh and wholesome foods on a daily basis is equally important.

Proper skin care can help prevent and treat dry skin, as well as the itch often associated with it.

1) Shower in warm water instead of hot water only once a day for less than 10 minutes.

2) Wash with only with a "non-soap" cleanser that is pure and gentle. It should be hypo-allergenic and contain only herbal ingredients that are organically grown.

Vitamin-derived antioxidants from plant sourced ingredients not only make the best ingredients for your "inside", but for your "outside" as well. A pure and gentle cleanser is just right for all skin types, conditions and ages.

3) After bathing, gently pat your skin dry with a soft towel.

4) Then moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! This is extremely important in your dry skin care.

Many times I'm asked, "But what type of moisturizer should you use on your skin?"

With so many choices out there, it is difficult, at best, to make a logical decision.

There are several factors to look for in a proper and effective moisturizer. It should be formulated to be hypo-allergenic, contain NO perfumes, dyes, mineral oil, petroleum or harsh steroids .

This type of skin treatment will then be suitable for infants, children and adults with sensitive skin problems as well as all skin types. However, finding such a product is hard (at best) to come by.

Natural Ingredients The "right" therapeutic cream should be formulated to be hypo-allergenic and filled with only the best and healthful ingredients!

Vitamins and herbal extracts promote restoration and proper skin tone and health. One of the main ingredients should include urea . This is a powerful “humectant” and actually unpacks dry, damaged cells 7 layers deep and binds water below the surface of the epidermis, right down to the stratus corneum, which is the skin building layer, allowing your sensitive skin to repair from “the bottom up”.

You see, only natural and organic products are designed to truly repair problem skin (as well as greatly hydrate normal skin) and bring relief to parched, itchy, red and cracked skin of all types.

Healthful vitamins and herbal botanicals as well as the super moisturizing ingredient – shea butter - produce fast and highly effective results. This combination will also provide a protective barrier on your skin to seal in moisture and prevent your skin from drying out.

Letter to Nanette:

Two years ago I came to see you. I was 23 years old then and working full time at a nursing home caring for a number of patients. The skin on my hands was so raw and split from washing them throughout the day, that they would bleed constantly. Well, as you recommended, I brought in the cleanser you spoke about as well as the cream. Within 5 days my hands were restored without even missing a single work day. Thank you very much, S.W., Cary,IL
