Facial Warts --- Aldara 5 % (imiquimod)

Hi There,

My child was prescribed Aldara for facial warts. Impetigo seemed to develop in areas and the doctor then prescribed Fucidin H. Areas of redness have never subsided on his chin and cheeks. In his entire life (until a few small warts appeared--hpv) he had never even had sensitive skin. Now we are struggling to keep redness in the same patches under control, without any success. We live in Canada and the weather has been extreme, which seems to exacerbate the problem now. We do not use any Aldara anymore, and never will again. He doesn't have any more open sores on his face anymore but we need help to make it appear healthy like it used to be. Thanks so much.

Hello,

You mentioned using Aldara on your child who then seemed to develop impetigo in some areas. You should know that this drug has a number of possible side effects which include: redness, swelling, itching, burning, pain or tenderness, thickening or hardening of the skin, peeling, flaking, scabbing, crusting, or leaking a clear fluid, bleeding, formation of sores, blisters, or ulcers. Also, changes in skin color may occur.
You also mentioned using Fucidin H cream which contains two active ingredients, hydrocortisone acetate and fusidic acid. Hydrocortisone acetate is a drug known as a corticosteroid or steroid. Steroids produce dangerous side effects which include: thinning and discoloration of the skin, easy bruising, permanent dilation of certain blood vessels, burn marks on skin, itchiness, perioral dermatitis, liver and kidney damage and a weakened immune system. Not only this, but steroid use almost always produces a "rebound effect" of the very symptoms you are trying to get rid of!

Understandably, the extreme weather you have been having in Canada can exacerbate your child's condition. I will recommend the following to help restore and repair your son's skin.

First use our FACE & BODY MOISTURIZING WASH which is a "non-soap" cleanser and provides a gentle but thorough anti bacterial cleansing but does not strip the skin of it's natural PH. It will begin the repair process deep down that your son's skin needs. Next for all over body use, apply our FACE & NECK THERACREAM, twice daily. This creams has the capability to penetrate the 7 layers of skin and unpack damaged cells, and supply moisture and nutrients to repair and rebuild healthy, balanced skin. Remember, the body responds to health building ingredients!

Please keep me posted on your son's progress.

Warm Regards,
Nanette
