Help! Seborrheic Dermatitis

I have a month old baby girl and she developed seborrheic dermatitis. The doctor prescribed her 1% hydrocortisone and after 4 days her face cleared up! But the joy didn't last long. After a couple of days it came back and worse! Spreading all over! And she has burn marks on her cheeks! Poor baby! Also, now she developed cradle scalp and the doctor told me to use Selsun Blue. What can I do for my baby? I don't want to keep using all this harmful stuff! Please help me. Thank you

Hello Carolina,

As a mother, I certainly feel your frustration over the unresolved skin condition of your little baby girl! I will also say that I am proud of you for not wanting to continue using such harmful chemicals as hydrocortisone as well as many of the toxic ingredients in Selsun Blue. Your baby is only one month old and has already been exposed to too many harsh chemicals! The side effects of steroid use are many and include: thinning and discoloration of the skin, easy bruising, permanent dilation of certain blood vessels, burn marks on skin, liver and kidney damage and a weakened immune system. Not only this, but steroid use almost always produces a "rebound effect" of the very symptoms you are trying to get rid of! This would explain why her seborrheic dermatitis has returned as well as her getting cradle cap.

Here is what I recommend for your little baby girl:

Wash only with a hypo-allergenic and gentle body wash which contains absolutely no chemicals or ingredients that can be toxic to the skin.
