Sigmacort 1% On My Eye Lids

by John
(Australia)

Hi,

My name is John, and I have had eczema - red flaring on my eye lids and around the eye for a while. The doctor prescribed to me Sigmacort 1% cream during some of the flare-ups. I have placed a heap of this cream on the eyelid and surrounding area for about 1-2 nights.

I had researched some of the side-effects of the cream, and I am now quite afraid of the consequences. since I have applied too much for a short period of time (total of 7 applications being spread out on numerous flare-up occasions).

Does anyone think I should be worrying?

Hello John,

Eczema around and on the eyelids can present a very large challenge not only health wise but in day to day responsibilities as well. You mentioned applying Sigmacort 1% cream on your eyelids in rather large amounts. First let me explain for our website viewers that Sigmacort 1% is a hydrocortisone acetate cream that should be applied sparingly and with limited the number of applications. Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid and prolonged or heavy doses of hydrocortisone may have an immunosuppressant effect and thus decrease resistance to infection as well as mask signs of it. Further, the possibility of systemic absorption exists, particularly if an occlusive dressing is applied.

An itching or burning sensation may be experienced when using Sigmacort 1%. Also know that adverse dermatological effects are most likely to occur in facial areas during or after usage. Atrophy of the epidermis, subcutaneous tissue and dermal collagen; drying and cracking or tightening of the skin may occur. Epidermal thinning, increased fragility of cutaneous blood vessels, pupura and atrophic striae are also reported.

Other adverse dermatologic effects of topical corticosteroids include acne eruption, irritation, itchiness, rosacea-like eruptions on the face, dermatitis, burning or stinging sensation, folliculitis, and hypopigmentation.

Being a firm believer in natural remedies, I would only recommend health building ingredients for the skin and especially for the very sensitive eyelid area. The 2 products I absolutely recommend are: our FACE & BODY MOISTURIZING WASH and our FACE & NECK THERACREAM, to be used morning and night. You may also apply the face cream anytime during the day as needed for the first few weeks. These products provide anti itch and anti inflammatory properties and will begin healing and repairing the skin 7 layers deep and will bring back the balance and restoration to your eyelid area.

Please keep me posted on your progress John. Also, please note that we refer all of our International customers to our sister website at: www.aim2health.com where you can order all of the same products as are available on this website.

Warm Regards,
Nanette
