Skin Rash On A Baby

My 5 month old nephew has a fungus infection(that's what we think) especially on his forehead and a spot on the back of his head. His doctor did look at it, but recommended a prescription cream and did say that it might cause his skin to become lighter? My sister in law decided not to use the cream, she's been putting a real heavy cream, that seems to help with the itching, but it's not going away. Since he's just a baby, she really doesn't want to use any creams that contain, steroids, what would you recommend?

Hello,

First, I am thrilled that your sister in law does not wish to use the prescription cream because continued use of topical steroid creams containing hydrocortisone and the like can cause the skin to develop a resistance (called tachyplaxis) to the medication.
