Dry knees and elbows can really hurt! After all, they take a lot of abuse. Over time, the skin thickens and becomes scaly, cracked and this can be quite uncomfortable. Add to this serious conditions of psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis and the problem becomes compounded.
It can be very frustrating to know what to do for dry knees and elbows. You see, the skin on any part of your body that bends and stretches repeatedly, such as the knees and elbows, will need special care when skin problems erupt.
After all, these parts get leaned on quite a bit, which can certainly add to the problem.
People often ask, "What should I use to treat my dry knees and elbows?"
The answer to this includes people with psoriasis, dry patches, dry spots and itchy skin syndrome.
First, I strongly recommend staying away from all steroid creams as these will only hurt your skin and your health in the long run.
As part of your natural repair program, you should wash with only a "non-soap" cleanser that is pure and gentle. It should be hypo-allergenic and contain herbal ingredients. This will begin to unpack the dry scales, and start the much needed moisturization process. Anything else will just keep drying out your skin and exacerbate the problem.
Vitamin-derived antioxidants from plant sourced ingredients not only make the best ingredients for your "inside", but for your "outside" as well. A pure and gentle cleanser is just right for all skin types, conditions and ages and will begin to bring balance back to the skin.
Next, I recommend a rich, therapeutic cream that MUST be able to reach the deepest layers of thick skin. When you have layers of dry, packed and hardened cells lining the thicker skin of the elbows, knees and even the scalp area, you absolutely need the RIGHT CREAM!
It should definitely NOT contain MINERAL OIL or PETROLEUM as these will only clog your pores and suffocate the skin since the molecules of these harmful ingredients are too large to pass the much smaller pore of the skin. Unfortunately, 8 products out of 10 contain these toxic, inert ingredients. So learn to read the labels of everything us plan on using on your body.
You see, when dry, cracked, split skin becomes hardened and seemingly impenetrable-such as on the elbows, knees, feet, ears and scalp, a reparative formula must go down into the 7 layers of the skin to thoroughly "unpack" dead cells and replenish much needed moisture.
It must also provide anti-itch properties as well as anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties to prevent infection.
A therapeutic cream should contain shea butter , urea and valuable vitamins and herbal botanicals in order to deeply hydrate and repair these damaged areas.
1) Urea has been medically proven in various clinical studies to have extraordinary anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties that help promote fast healing of dry, cracked, split skin, eczema, psoriasis, rashes, acne and other types of problem skin.
2) Urea has been proven to heal serious wounds and burns without any scarring. Further studies have shown that it also has anti-itch properties that have a very rapid effect on problematic red itchy dry knees and elbows.
3) Urea replenishes the water content of the skin because it binds hydrogen and attracts moisture in a way that no mineral oil or glycerine-based lotions or creams can.
I tell my customers that the great results they experience from using just the right ingredients are because of re-established balance to the skin's processes of exfoliation and re-building.
Unfortunately, so many products today actually hinder this process instead of facilitate it. Some even cause the very dry knees and elbows problem you are trying so hard to correct!
Letter to Nanette
I am 60 years old and I had been going to the same dermatologist for 35 years when I came to see you. You asked me why I kept going to the same doctor for so many years without any relief and I told you, "Because I HOPED that someday, something would work!" You looked at my caked up psoriasis on my elbows and knees and recommended the non-soap cleanser and the Double Strength TheraCream.
I thought it too simple of a remedy at first but went home to try your recommendation. I was literally SHOCKED when in less than 3 weeks my elbows and knees cleared up!! I hadn't seen them so clear in 35 years! Well, I guess you're never too old to learn something new. Natural remedies DO WORK and are a lot more effective and kind to the body. Thank you dear lady! Greg, Schaumburg, IL
Hello Nanette,
My elbows were so dry and cracked that they bled constantly. I work in an office and had to bandage my elbows every day for fear they would bleed through my blouse. I ordered the Double Strength TheraCream and applied it twice a day. I couldn't believe the results because they were so fast and in a week I could place my elbows on my desk and not have them hurt!! Thank you so much for such an amazing product. Beatrice Mullen, CA
