Lip Discoloration/Betamethasone Gel/Fordyce Spots

(New York )

Hi,

I think I have developed something like Fordyce Spots (white spots) on my upper lip with some discoloration. Do you think it could be due to the hydrocortisone shots I have been taking as well as applying betamethasone gel?

by: Nanette From Skin-Remedies.com

Hello,

Your symptoms may or may not be Fordyce's Spots since some symptoms can mirror other conditions. However, for our website viewers I will say that Fordyce's Spots are small, painless, raised, pale, red or white spots or bumps 1 to 3 mm in diameter that may appear on the inner surface (retromolar mucosa) and vermilion border of the lips of the face.

Regarding the hydrocortisone shots you've been given, these can be very detrimental to your skin and general health. Many times this drug exacerbates the skin condition and even produces further unwanted results. The betamethasone dipropionate gel you spoke of also using contains betamethasone dipropionate, USP, a synthetic fluorinated corticosteroid for topical dermatologic use. Betamethasone dipropionate is included in a class of compounds consisting primarily of synthetic corticosteroids for use topically as anti-inflammatory and anti-pruritic agents. Steroids carry with them harmful side effects....period! These side effects include: thinning and discoloration of the skin, easy bruising, permanent dilation of certain blood vessels, burn marks on skin, liver and kidney damage and a weakened immune system.

To repair and normalize your skin and skin tone, here is what I advise! My recommendation to you is to wash only with a hypo-allergenic and gentle wash which contains absolutely no chemicals or ingredients that can be toxic to the skin. Our FACE & BODY WASH will provide this type of purity and will help bring your skin in balance. Then apply our FACE & NECK THERACREAM - twice daily, which is a deep penetrating cream which will penetrate the 7 layers of skin and promote optimal functioning of the skin processes helping to repair and restore from the bottom up. This cream also provides a protective barrier as it is anti-fungal and anti-microbial and will help your skin to return to a balanced state and normal skin tones. And don't overlook putting the cream directly over your lips as well as this skin needs moisture and nutrients as well.

Please keep me posted on your progress.

Warm Regards,
Nanette

Exfoliative Cheilitis

Dear Nanette,

Can you help exfoliative cheilitis other than using beta hydroxy acids to take the scales off? I have a scaly lip condition. I do not want to use steroids.

Thank you very much.

Response To Exfoliative Cheilitis
by: Nanette - Skin-Remedies.com

Hi Randy,

I do know that exfoliative cheilitis can be caused by a variety of things but the main reason is the toxicity of your body! Most people think that since the problem is on the outside they must deal with it on the outside, but the opposite is true.

You MUST eliminate toxins from your body with an all natural cleansing program to help you do this. An intestinal bowel cleanser will cleanse not only your colon but your liver and kidneys as well. Also, eat organic fruits & vegetables as much as possible while cutting down on processed and restaurant foods. Use only an organic face cream specially formulated to repair conditions of the face, neck, eyelids and lips. It is important that the cream can penetrate the scaly patches and repair deep down. You should apply this cream day and night as well as apply when your lips become dry or when they are peeling.

Below are my recommendations of our products and how they will positively impact your condition.

1) Wash the affected area with a hypo-allergenic and gentle body wash which contains absolutely no chemicals or ingredients that can be toxic to the skin. Our FACE & BODY WASH will provide this type of purity and will begin the repair process.

2) FACE & NECK THERACREAM which is a highly therapeutic face cream that I would recommend your applying to your lips to relieve the dry, cracked symptoms you are experiencing.

3) Take, twice daily, our INTESTINAL BOWEL CLEANSER (capule or powder form) to remove impacted waste matter and toxic build up as well as assist in cleansing the liver and kidneys. This will greatly help your immune system as well.

4) Take several time per day, our GREEN POWERHOUSE (capsule or powder form) to provide your body with the widest array of vitamins, minerals and enzymes needed by the body to repair and replenish. This formula also contains the highest amount of chlorophyll which further cleanses every cell as well as promotes healthy cell growth and development.

Please keep me posted as you begin your regimen.

Warm Regards,
Nanette

Hello Sasha,

Our body has a certain threshold of tolerance for products that may not have the best ingredients in them. Over time, the body eventually reacts in a negative way. Further, using hydrocortisone and then stopping can produce what is called the "rebound effect" where symptoms can return in a worse condition than before. Our customers who have also experienced your present symptoms have found great relief first gently cleansing with our FACE & BODY MOISTURIZING WASH followed by an application of our FACE & NECK THERACREAM twice daily. These products will penetrate the skin and promote optimal functioning of the skin processes helping reduce inflammation and restore your skin while stopping any itching and providing an anti bacterial protection as well.

Please keep me posted on your progress!

Please help - problem lips!
by: Sasha

Dear Nanette,

I had a reaction to a lip stick (I think) a couple of months ago. It was a brand I have been using for a long time but I started to notice that every time I used it I got a rash on one half of my upper lip. Usually if I left my lips alone for a while the rash would go away eventually. However, it started to become something more permanent. I went to my doctor in the UK and she was really dismissive - she told me to put an over the counter hydrocortisone cream on it and it would go away. I know how bad steroid creams are (I actually suffered from Corticosteroid addiction on my face in 2006) and I was left not knowing what to do. My upper lip was so sore - eventually, I tried the Hydrocortisone for a week in desperation. Just as I thought as soon as I stopped it came back. Now my whole top lip is covered in a rash (it looks like tiny pustules and they sometimes break), and the space between my nose and my top lip is sore, red and dry. My lower lips are also dry and there is a rash along the edge of my lower lip and on my chin.

My top lip even swells sometimes - I really would like your advice on what to do. I have had perioral dermatitis (after I had steroid addiction) and I thought it might be that.

Thanks so much in advance for any advice you can give.

Sasha, UK

Hello Cavalera,

Dry lips can affect a person at any time and it's actually quite a common condition.

There are many reasons why lips can become dry and cracked. It can be due to: weather conditions, illness, dehydration, constant licking, food or drink reaction, chemicals and dyes in lipsticks and lip balms.....to name a few.

Water, taken internally, is important in keeping the skin (this includes lips) smooth and flexible. Also, a proper diet filled with fresh and wholesome foods is equally important.

I highly recommend using our FACE & NECK THERACREAM daily and include applying some on your lips. The skin on the lips have 7 layers just like the rest of the body and needs to be supplied a good amount of moisture daily to remain healthy and moist. We sell this cream on this website under the tab "Our Products" and I would also recommend using our All Natural Moisturizing Lip Balms which can be purchased at our sister site at http://www.aim2health.com/lipbalm.htm.

Please keep me posted on your progress Cavalera and all the best to you.

Warm Regards,
Nanette

Response To: Exfoliative Cheilitis
by: Nanette From Skin-Remedies.com

Hello Liz,

First, for our website viewers I will explain that Exfoliative Cheilitis is a condition of peeling, dry, cracked, flaking, chapped, itching, burning, inflamed, red and sore lips. You are seeing a very common occurrence when usage of steroid creams is stopped. It almost always produces a "rebound effect" of the very symptoms you are trying to get rid of! You mentioned that your doctor was treating you with certain drugs which I must go over with you so you can understand just how dangerous these are. Halonate steroid cream contains halobetasol propionate, which is a synthetic corticosteroid. All forms of steroids produce varying degrees of side effects which include: thinning and discoloration of the skin, easy bruising, permanent dilation of certain blood vessels, burn marks on skin, itchiness, perioral dermatitis, liver and kidney damage and a weakened immune system. Altabax is an antibacterial drug that can produce application site pain, erythematic (redness of the skin), contact dermatitis, diarrhea, nasopharyngitis, pruritus (burning itch), eczema, headache, and nausea. Solodyn is a tetracycline class antibiotic medicine that contains minocycline. Solodyn can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight and sunburn may result. Side effects include severe headache, dizziness, blurred vision, fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash, fever, confusion, severe upper stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, fast heart rate, loss of appetite, jaundice, easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness, swollen tongue, and trouble swallowing.

Here is what I recommend you use for your condition: First, what you wash with is so very important and I can't emphasize this enough. Most products are loaded with harsh, drying ingredients that strip the natural PH of your skin leaving it further vulnerable. Use our gentle and pure FACE & BODY WASH that will deeply cleanse your skin and begin repairing your skin even before you apply cream.

Next you will want to apply our FACE & NECK THERACREAM twice daily focusing the area around of the lips and extending to the surrounding areas. This hypo-allergenic cream penetrates all 7 layers of skin to repair dry, damaged cells and relieves inflammation and itching and restores much needed moisture from the bottom up to the very skin surface helping to restore balance. Both of these products are formulated with skin nurturing ingredients that repair, restore and replenish natural moisture levels in the skin.

You may also want to consider our INTESTINAL BOWEL CLEANSER for internal deep toxic and waste cleansing (including residual drug/medication accumulation that may be re-circulating in your blood stream) of the body as well as our GREEN POWERHOUSE for the highest level of nutrition available to strengthen your body, skin and immune system.
Please keep me posted on your progress Liz.
Warm Regards,
Nanette

Chelitis Exfoliativa
by: Liz

Nanette,

I have severe burning and inflammation of the lips along with intense peeling. The doctor prescribed a topical steroid (Halonate.) Symptoms improved slightly but when I stopped the treatment, boils broke out all over my face. He is now treating me with Altabax cream and Solodyn anitbiotic. I am so scared. I am 46 and have never had any of these issues before. I want to reiterate that the burning and inflammation are great. Is there a center that I can fly to? Thank you for any help.
Liz

Response To White Itching Lips
by: Nanette from Skin-Remedies.com

Hello Jackie,

The lips, like the skin on the rest of the body, can experience dryness, itching and pain. There are many reasons why lips can become dry and cracked. It can be due to: weather conditions, illness, dehydration, constant licking, food or drink reaction, chemicals and dyes in lipsticks and lip balms.....to name a few.

Hydrocortisone creams will mask these symptoms but when discontinued, the body most often displays more severe symptoms than before. Furthermore, steroid creams can produce side effects that include: thinning of the skin, easy bruising, permanent dilation of certain blood vessels, burn marks on skin, liver and kidney damage and a weakened immune system. My recommendation is to seek only natural remedies to repair your lips.

I highly recommend using our FACE & NECK THERACREAM daily and include applying some on your lips. The skin on the lips have 7 layers just like the rest of the body and needs to be supplied a good amount of moisture daily to remain healthy and moist. Many of our customers place a small amount of this cream in an empty smaller container and carry this around, placing a little on the lips whenever needed.

As a dietary recommendation, water, taken internally, is important in keeping the skin (this includes lips) smooth and flexible. Also, a proper diet filled with fresh and wholesome foods is equally important.

Please keep me posted on your progress Jackie.

Warm Regards,
Nanette
